The Honda CR-V may be the most popular car ever produced by Honda, especially in North America. The Honda CR-V was a trailblazer of its time, it basically invented the "crossover SUV" class. The CR-V has remained popular since its introduction in North America in 1995. Why? The CR-V is a downright useful vehicle. Did you know: CR-V stands for Comfortable Runabout Vehicle. The name pretty much sums it up, its a comfortable vehicle for getting things done around town, with enough ground clearance and AWD capabilities to satisfy the more adventurous types.
The CR-V has always been a reliable, fun, and practical vehicle for the people of the world. The first generation of the CR-V (chassis code RD1) was beloved at the time and even today for its innovative features, rugged construction, and simple, reliable design. These are all features that have remained staples of the CR-V throughout over 30 years of production.
Initially outfitted with a B20 class engine from Honda, the CR-V switched to the K-Series engine with its second generation. We've already talked extensively about the K-Series in a previous article, but needless to say the K-Series was here to stay with the CR-V. Some CR-Vs are still sold with K-Series engines today, although many have the option for the newer, more efficient R-Series engines.
Today, despite a radically different design language, the CR-V remains a favorite amongst young people, families, tradesmen, and drivers alike. With sporty power delivery, world-class handling, excellent cargo space, and just the right amount of amenities, the CR-V remains one of the best selling vehicles in America.
