Transparent Pricing

We have spent an unbelievable amount of time combing over our business model so we can deliver outstanding value to our clients. Good auto repair isn't cheap, and cheap auto repair isn't good. We've carved out a precise balance between quality, and affordability.

Flat Rate Labor

We charge $165 per book hour sold.

Flat rate labor is the industry standard way of charging for auto repair. Every manufacturer publishes a book of labor times for each car they make. These labor times are essentially how long it will take the average technician to perform repair.

For example: an alternator on a 2004 Honda Accord has a book time of 0.5 hours to remove and replace. So 0.5 x $165 = $82.5 in labor.

Flat rate labor is used to standardize labor estimates across different shops. As well, flat rate labor incentivizes skilled technicians to complete more jobs. If shops charged hourly, then the customer would be paying more for a less skilled technician, and less for a more skilled technician. Flat rate labor allows the customer to pay for a standard amount of time, instead of however much time the technician feels like charging.

While it is not a perfect system, its the best on the auto industry has at the moment.

The average shop price in Colorado for a specialist is $180 - $210 per hour. Thankfully, we have structured our budget to maintain as low of an overhead cost as possible, allowing us to deliver unbeatable value to our customers.

Parts Pricing

We sell our parts at near cost!

It is the standard industry practice to charge a markup on parts, some shops (especially the dealers) sell their parts at 80% - 120% markup! We sell our parts at 5% - 30% markup, our markup is based on a matrix calculation where the more expensive a part is, the lower the markup is. The reason we charge a markup at all is to compensate for shipping and handling costs that are not expressed in the cost-price of the part. Additionally, we partner with exclusive wholesalers for Honda & Acura parts, and these wholesalers charge account fees which are also not expressed in the price of the parts.

For these reasons, we advertise that we sell parts at "near cost" instead of just "at cost" because it wouldn't be technically accurate to do so.

No Hidden Fees Ever

We do not charge fees for shop supplies, disposal, or EPA!

It's standard practice at many shop to charge 2% - 5% fees for shop supplies, disposal of used parts, and EPA fees for control materials. The problem is, most of these fees do not apply to every ticket! Most tickets don't need additional shop supplies, hazardous waste disposal, and EPA fees pretty much only apply to refrigerant. We don't need to charge additional fees, so we don't. It's that simple.

Diagnostics

Diagnostics are where the flat rate system kind of falls apart. Diagnostics is definitely the most difficult part of repairing an automobile. A good or bad diagnosis will make or break the whole operation for everyone. The average vehicle has over 5000 feet of wiring throughout the machine, anywhere from 10 to 100 independent control modules, and usually 10+ interconnected vehicle systems.

We charge diagnostics on a tiered system, depending on the intensity of the testing required.

Tier 1: Basic Level - $100
Tier one is for basic, relatively easy to diagnose concerns. Approximately 60% of the concerns we see fall into the tier one level. Tier one includes but is not limited to:
- OBD Diagnostics Scan and Systems Call
- Visual Inspection of Affected Systems
- Concern-Oriented Road Test
- Investigation of Most Suspension Concerns
- Basic A/C and Heating Concerns
- Basic Cooling System Testing
- Basic Electrical Testing (fuses, relays, connectors)
- Most Common EVAP Concerns
- Basic Engine Performance Concerns
- Most Starting and Charging Concerns
- Most Brake System Concerns
- Most Driveline Concerns

Tier 2: Advanced Level - $250
Tier two is when we have to dig deeper into the vehicle to accurately determine the problem. Approximately 35% of the concerns we see fall into tier two. Tier two includes everything in tier one, as well as but not limited to:
- Electrical Pin-Out Testing
- Component Level Testing
- Transmission Function Concern Testing
- Compression & Leak-Down Tests
- Advanced Engine Performance Diagnostics
- Advanced A/C and Heating Diagnostics
- Overnight Testing
- Road Testing With Chassis Ears Equipped
- Basic Oscilloscope Testing

Tier 3: Gremlin Level - $500
Tier three is for those gremlin problems that evade diagnostics for extended times. Approximately 5% of the concerns we see fall into tier three. Tier three includes everything in tier one, as well as but not limited to:
- Information BUS Communication Diagnostics
- Advanced Oscilloscope Testing
- Multi-Day Diagnostics
- Airbag & SRS Diagnostics
- Engine/Transmission Teardown Diagnostics

Do Diagnostic Fees Get "Rolled into the Repair"?
Many shops will tell their customers that "if you get the repair done with us, we'll roll the diagnostics into the repair!". Most customers are lead to believe that the diagnosis will be free in this case, but they are actually just paying more for the repair! While this is admittedly an effective sales strategy, we prefer to just be transparent with our clients. This way when you get your invoice, you know exactly how much you paid, and exactly what you paid for!

Our Diagnostic Guarantee
We guarantee that our diagnostics will result in an accurate repair! We can't always get it exactly right the first time, there are just too many variables with cars to make a one-size-fits-all diagnostic policy. Sometimes a vehicle may have multiple small problems on the same system that are culminating in a large problem, in these cases there is going to be some back and forth to ensure we get the problem fixed. However, we guarantee that you will only be charged a diagnostic fee upon a successful and accurate diagnosis. In the event of an unsuccessful diagnosis, the customer will not pay any diagnostic fee, but may be required to pay for repairs conducted during diagnostics if the repairs were necessary or beneficial to the health of the vehicle.

Example #1:
2001 Honda Civic comes in with a check engine light illuminated. We find the code to be P0171 (System Too Lean Bank 1). There are many possible concerns that could lead to a P0171 code, ranging anywhere from a simple vacuum leak to expensive and complicated fuel injectors. We start the customer at the Tier One ($100) diagnostic tier, and we perform a smoke test to find the vehicle has a ripped intake air boot. We quote the customer to replace that intake air boot, but after the repair we are still seeing a P0171 fault. We inform the customer of our findings, and we escalate the customer to Tier Two ($250) diagnostics. We perform an injector balance test, and we find the customer has one clogged injector. We quote the customer a new fuel injector, replace it, and the code is now gone. We charge the customer ONLY the $250 diagnostic fee, and the cost to replace the air boot, and the injector.

Example #2:
2019 Acura RDX comes in with a clunking noise when making left turns at 25 mph or higher. We get the car up on the lift and while we are poking around we find the vehicle has a worn out sway bar link. A worn sway bar link can definitely cause this type of concern. We start the customer with a Tier One ($100) diagnostic fee and we quote them to replace the worn sway bar link. We get the sway bar link replaced, but on the test drive we find the clunking noise is still present. We notify the customer that we are going to have to dig deeper, and we increase the diagnostic fee to Tier Two ($250) and proceed to spend the next several hours diagnosing the vehicle. We use every diagnostic method available to us, but we still cannot pinpoint the exact cause of the sound. Eventually, we run out of time or otherwise throw in the towel. The customer is NOT charged any diagnostic fee since we did not successfully diagnose the vehicle. However, the customer still has to pay for the sway bar link we replaced, since it was a necessary repair regardless of the noise.

Example #3:
2015 Honda Pilot comes in with a check engine light illuminated, found the vehicle is misfiring on cylinder #3. We start the customer at Tier One ($100) diagnostics and we go ahead and replace all spark plugs and ignition coils. The misfire does not go away and the old ignition coils and spark plugs are found to be just fine. We continue investigating and cannot find the source of the misfire. In this case, the customer would pay for nothing, because spark plugs and ignition coils were not necessary or beneficial to the overall health of the vehicle. This is what we in the business call "shotgun diagnostics" where you just throw parts at it until its fixed. We obviously do not practice this, but we aren't always perfect, so we want our customers to be covered in the event of substandard diagnostics.
